According to the Hindu belief, there are four holy shrines in Uttarakhand dedicated to Hindu Gods and holy rivers of India Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath are collectively known as Chardham. Traditionally, the pilgrimage begins from the West and ends in the East. Thus, the Char Dham Yatra commences from Yamunotri, then proceeding to Gangotri and finally to Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Yamunotri Dham, named after the Goddess Yamuna, A bath in the holy waters of Yamuna river is said to cleanse one of all sins and protect from untimely death. Gangotri Dham is second temple that falls on this journey and the birthplace of the holy river Ganga.
The divine abode of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath Dham is listed among the holiest destinations of Hindu Pilgrimage. One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, in the other side Badrinath Dham one of the four holly Adobe of Lord Vishnu.
